The significance of latitude?

Several renowned wine regions are located around 38° North and South latitude, which are considered ideal for viticulture due to their Mediterranean-like climates.

38° North latitude regions:

- Northern California - Napa Valley and Sonoma County sit very close to 38°N, producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir

- Central Portugal - The Douro Valley and surrounding regions, famous for Port wine and increasingly acclaimed table wines

- Southern Spain - Parts of Andalusia, including Jerez (sherry production)

- Sicily, Italy - The northern coast of this island, known for both traditional and modern wines

- Northern Greece - Some wine regions in Macedonia and Thessaly

- Turkey - Wine regions in western Anatolia

38° South latitude regions:

- Mendoza Province, Argentina - The heart of Argentine wine country, famous for Malbec and high-altitude vineyards

- Central Chile - Parts of the Maipo and Rapel valleys, known for Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère

- South Australia - The Barossa Valley and Clare Valley regions, renowned for Shiraz and Riesling

This latitude band is particularly favorable for wine production because it typically provides warm, dry summers and mild winters - conditions that allow grapes to ripen properly while maintaining good acidity. The consistent sunlight and temperature patterns at these latitudes have made them some of the world's most prestigious wine-producing areas. Our vineyard is in good company!
